Dry ice is carbon dioxide in its solid state, reaching temperatures -87.5°C. It has the property of sublimation - direct conversion from solid to liquid.
When dry ice is placed in hot or boiling water, it immediately reacts with the water and sublimates to release CO2 gas, which meets the water vapor in the air to form small droplets. The CO2 gas meets the water vapor in the air and small droplets of water form. The expanding gas and water vapor are ejected from the nozzle. Due to the low temperature and heavy weight of the CO2, the water vapor sinks to the floor and the water droplets in the air create a fog effect.
